A Fresh Start
The goal of a Chapter 7 bankruptcy is to give debt-weary people a fresh start.
Chapter 7 Bankruptcy - How It Works
This type of bankruptcy is a liquidation of assets. In a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, a trustee takes custody of the debtor's property and sells it at auction, with the proceeds split among the creditors. The goal of a Chapter 7 bankruptcy is the erasure of the debtor's obligations, so that the debtor can start fresh with a clean slate.
There are some debts that a Chapter 7 bankruptcy doesn't discharge, and there are some assets that a debtor may be allowed to keep, including your home and car in some instances. A debtor must also satisfy a means test to qualify for debt relief under Chapter 7. We will explain the rules and limitations to you in a straightforward manner, and help you dtermine what course of action is best for your circumstances.
We offer evening and weekend appointments, competitive rates and accept all major credit cards. If you need legal advice regarding a possible bankruptcy, contact our Gonzales or Houma office for a free initial consultation.
We are a debt relief agency. We help people file for bankruptcy relief under the Bankruptcy Code.
